In a Nutshell
You know how websites often have an executive statement about what their mission is, and why they do whatever it is that they do? Well, this is a step in that direction, since I've already deemed "About Me"'s deplorable and refuse to partake in their tyranny. So let's begin! When I was in high school, I was sure that I'd be a doctor. It's a Nigerian parent thing, where one's success often lies in being top of your class in med school while somehow retaining a superhuman domestic ability. My parents had a clear expectation, and I had lived up to it. That is, until AP BIo. I realized that I couldn't possible devote the rest of my life to studying the complexities of cellular fission and the minutiae of bodily functions, et cetera, et cetera. After I put the bio sphere (punny, no?) behind me, I realized that I had an infinite amount of options before me. I was so liberated, and yet, so confined to leaning towards what I knew was more lucrative. Money, money, money. It all comes down to that, so often, and I'm terrified that I won't have enough of the stuff to prove to everyone that I'm not a total failure. This paranoia followed me to college, try as I might to be nonchalant and sustain a "follow-your-dreams" outlook on life. (Clearly, it mustn't have bothered me that much if I ended up being a film major.) Nevertheless, Emory has been such a great place to really experiment and assimilate a variety of ideas. I've grown a lot, and everything I've done since I got here has led me to the point I'm at now-- pleasantly juxtaposed, I like to say. Sure, I can be clueless, but I love learning from everyone around me, and I'm more than ready to get "out there" if it means I'll have the opportunity to do so. So, right. My mission. If you haven't figured it out yet, it's to find what exhilarates me, and challenges me, and makes me love what I do-- as a career, as a lifestyle, whatever the case may be. I can't say at all what this mystical destiny is, but I truly hope that on this harrowing journey of self-discovery in a rapidly evolving world, I will end up where I feel I'm supposed to be.
